How We Support Reston Businesses
Reston is inside the Northern Virginia area our Leesburg team visits in person. Most support is remote, which suits a hybrid team, and someone comes onsite for an office setup, a move or a device that needs hands.
The service is the same everywhere: a fixed monthly cost for managed IT, endpoint protection, Microsoft 365 and email security, backups with tested restores, and monitoring with a person who answers. The pages below explain each part.
Fairfax County, Dulles Technology Corridor
What Do Reston Contractors and Tech Firms Need From IT?
Reston is a planned community in Fairfax County on the Dulles Technology Corridor, with office towers around Reston Town Center and along the Dulles Toll Road. Many of the firms in those buildings are technology companies and federal contractors, and many of the small ones work in shared or serviced office space with staff who are just as often at home or at a client site.
For a firm like that, the office network is the least of it. The work lives in Microsoft 365 and on laptops that move, so security starts with identity and the device: multi-factor authentication, endpoint detection and response, email security, and monitoring that covers cloud, network and endpoints around the clock. Federal contractors handling Controlled Unclassified Information also answer to DFARS clauses, and our Compliance Division, Capital Cyber Compliance, delivers the CMMC and NIST SP 800-171 work.
Virginia Law
What Virginia Requires After a Breach, and Why It Matters in Reston
Va. Code § 18.2-186.6. Notice to affected people: without unreasonable delay.
Virginia's breach notification law is Va. Code § 18.2-186.6. When a business finds that personal information of Virginia residents was accessed or acquired by an unauthorized person, it must give notice without unreasonable delay. The statute sets no fixed number of days.
The notice goes to the Office of the Attorney General and to each affected resident. When more than 1,000 people are notified at one time, the business must also notify the nationwide consumer reporting agencies.
Virginia also has the Consumer Data Protection Act, Va. Code § 59.1-575 and following. It applies to businesses that control or process the personal data of at least 100,000 Virginia consumers in a year, or at least 25,000 consumers while earning over 50 percent of gross revenue from selling personal data. Data used in the context of an employee or contractor role is exempt. Most small businesses fall under these thresholds, which is worth confirming rather than assuming.
