Auto Repair Shops and Auto Groups

A Security Leader for Your Shop Group, Without the Full-Time Salary.

Someone has to answer the insurer's questionnaire, write the policies and say what gets fixed first across every location. A virtual CISO does that part time, with our team behind them. Capital Cyber, based in Leesburg, Virginia, provides Virtual CISO (vCISO) for auto repair shops and auto groups and works on-site across Northern Virginia.

For multi-location auto groups and owners who are asked security questions they cannot answer.

What Does the Insurer's Questionnaire Really Ask?

Yes or no questions about multi-factor authentication, backups, endpoint protection, training and an incident response plan. A wrong yes can put a claim at risk.

Your vCISO checks each answer against what is actually running in each shop, and prepares the evidence. You sign knowing the answers are true.

Cyber Insurance Readiness

Why Does a Shop Need Written Policies?

Because staff turn over, and a rule that lives in the owner's head leaves with the owner's attention. A short set of written policies covers who gets an account, how payment changes are verified, what to do with a lost laptop and who to call in an incident. Insurers and larger customers like fleet accounts ask to see them.

How Does a vCISO Help With PCI DSS?

PCI DSS obligations come through your payment processor. The PCI Security Council directs questions about validation to the payment brands, so ask your processor what it requires of your shops. Your vCISO helps you read that request, decides what evidence supports it and keeps the card payment systems small and separated. The current standard is PCI DSS v4.x. We are not a PCI assessor, and what your shops must validate is for your processor to confirm.

What Does a Roadmap Look Like for a Multi-Location Group?

A Technology Roadmap lines your goals up with the right technology, in order: which locations are behind, what to standardize first, what a new location needs on day one. Leadership gets risk explained in plain language, so spending decisions are made on purpose.

Frequently Asked Questions

4 QUESTIONS
Can a vCISO make us PCI DSS compliant?

No one can promise that. Your payment processor sets what your shops must validate. A vCISO helps you understand the request, run the controls and keep the evidence.

Do we need a vCISO with only one or two shops?

Maybe not full time. It is scoped to what you need, from a regular cadence of meetings to deeper involvement when an insurer or a large customer asks questions.

How is this different from managed IT?

Managed IT runs the systems. A vCISO decides what the security program should be, sets priorities and checks that it is working. With us, both are the same company.

Does this lead to a certification?

Shops that want independent proof can look at CyberCert SMB1001 certification. A vCISO helps you prepare for it, and we do not promise an outcome.
